Q. When are you open?

The club opens at the end of March through to mid December with racing most Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evening racing on evenings in the summer months.  Beginners and novice sailing are held on Friday evenings.  There are also social events throughout the year.

Q. What types of dinghies are sailed?

Most classes are welcomed.  The main classes of boats sailed are Enterprise and Laser but there is also a wide mix of other dinghies sailed such as Solos, Bahia, Sport 14, Topper and we use a handicap system for racing which means that all boats compete on an equal basis.

Q. Is there a waiting list?

There is no waiting list and we welcome all those wishing to join.

Q. Do any boats need crews?

Yes, helms sometimes need crews.  Please visit the club on a Sundays or Wednesdays to find out more.  Novice members can find this a great way to learn more sailing skills by crewing for an experienced helm.

Q. Do you have boats for hire?

The club owns a number of boats (Toppers, Lasers, Sport 14, Bahia) but these are only available for use by members during club sessions when there is a rescue boat on the water.  The club has a range of temporary and trial memberships which can include the use of a club boat.

Q. Do you run sailing courses?

We run taster dinghy sailing courses for beginners.  These give sufficient sailing theory and practice to get you moving about the water.  These are run towards the beginning of the season and are extremely popular and places fill up fast.  Please contact us to reserve your place.

Q. Do you offer RYA training certificates?

No.  The nearest RYA training centres can be found at: Whiteadder Sailing Centre, Coquet Shorebase Trust, East Lothian Yacht Club.

Q. Do I have to go racing?

Not at all, we welcome all sailors whether their interest is cruising or racing. The club does actively promote sail racing, however, we also currently run cruising and novice sailing evenings on Fridays during the summer.  We also welcome members who wish to assist in rescue boat duties and anyone willing to help with club maintenance and organising or assisting with club events or just coming along on a Friday evening to enjoy a summer barbeque by the beach.

Q. How do I join / How much does it cost?

Easily.  Simply fill out our application form.  We have an open membership policy with no need for a proposer to sponsor your joining our club.  Please see the Membership page for the application form and details of fees.  We welcome new members who wish to enjoy the sport of sailing and enjoy the facilities our club offers.   We advise visiting us before becoming a member.  It helps you to get to know about the club better and we can advise you on the best membership type to suit your needs.
